About Reni

Reni Soares is a contemporary artist based in San Diego, CA. Reni was born and raised on the Cape Verde Islands, a small and vibrant country off the west coast of Africa. Her artistic journey began at a young age, inspired by her older sister, who sparked her interest in pencil drawing. Over the years, she transitioned to working primarily in acrylic paints, finding the medium a perfect tool for expressing her evolving voice as an artist.

When Reni first started out, her influences were heavily drawn from nature, particularly the ocean. Being raised on an island, surrounded by the beauty of nature, deeply influenced her early work. Now, while those influences still play a significant role, she has also incorporated more nuanced themes and techniques, drawing inspiration from a wider range of sources while still maintaining a strong connection to the natural world.

Her current focus has shifted toward storytelling—personal stories rooted in her lived experiences and childhood memories. They delve into narratives about people and events that have profoundly shaped the person she is today. She seeks to balance vulnerability with strength, shadows with light, reflecting her ongoing exploration of dualities in life and art. Whether through a vivid abstraction or a subtle figure, she aims to connect with viewers by offering windows into universal emotions drawn from her personal story. In sharing these intimate reflections, she hopes to evoke a sense of recognition, resilience, and the beauty of transformation.
